Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 001 – 015  Vol 13. No. 1 — 2013
Abstract

The antecedents of pupils’ leisure reading and how they affect one another were key issues this study sought to make lucid. Pupils’ self-concept as readers, the value they place on reading, their attitude toward recreational and academic reading, their reading speed and level, the availability of materials at home for their reading, their reading interests and the amount of time they spend in leisure reading were determined. The correlation of each antecedent with the others was established. Findings reveal that most antecedents are generally positive with girls having more positive, higher and better antecedents than boys. The study reflects on the gender deviations in terms of antecedents and on the need to engage pupils more in leisure reading and make the antecedents of their leisure reading better, higher and more positive.

LIBRARY AS A RESEARCH ENABLER

Author

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 016 – 031  Vol 13. No. 1 — 2013
Abstract

The study determines the role of library as a research enabler. The study employed the descriptive survey questionnaire using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Mean to determine the significant relationship between the library characteristics and the research enablers. Based on the data, the library had been found to be a mechanism that supports the research enablers. Without a functional library, research activities in the university may not achieve quality outputs since the library provides the basic information needs of users through its available facilities. It is no doubt that libraries play an important role in supporting teaching, learning and research. The support of administration to the library is one big factor to achieve a functional library because though their support in terms of structure, budget, resources and services, libraries will function based on the institutional vision, mission and objectives.  As such, the library is now considered to be a research enabler in the university.

Abstract

We describe a system to automatically generate metro maps using trigonometric approach. We have implemented these formulas in five steps. This is used to move from the initial geographic layout of the map to a schematic layout that is intended to aid travelers’ navigation. We describe the web application and show its result to a number of real world metro maps.

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 038 – 043 Vol 13. No. 1 — 2013
Abstract

The metering and control data in power line networks can be modified by malicious attacker. We can expect that an attacker may be able to eavesdrop the transmission data, and may be able to send modified data to device for control system. In this article we have tested different algorithms designed to address security encrypting algorithm for PLC networks. It also addresses the issue of securing communication with encryption algorithms and limits of throughputs during their use. The results measured under realistic conditions in PLC network were compared to results during a simulation where throughput with usage of 3DES encrypting algorithm dropped to 20% compared to AES encryption algorithm. Based on the gathered result we should be able to identify weather it is suitable to secure the communication with older encryption algorithms and what are the differences compared to modern algorithms and unsecured communication.

Abstract

Management of Bunaken Marine National Park has not been optimal yet due to the aspects of economic, social, and cultural problems, and natural resources degradation, while  on the other hand, government policy has not supported the local conditions.  Solution of the problems could be done through strategic decision regarding the effectiveness of management through BOCR optimistic scenario. Strategic choice based on shynteticized through qualitative approached using analyse ANP-BOCR, ANP-BSC from eight expert respondents. The results showed that optimistic outcome 0,1362 from management and devleopment of sustainable used, environmental sustainability 0,36, waste and environmental pollution 0,288.  Priority balanced score cards /ANP are operation management 0,26, tourism products 0,29, environmental services 0.23, capacity building 0,30.

Abstract

This paper aims to design several conceptual models in the context of the relationship of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) implementation to competitiveness in Indonesian banking industry. The research employed Interpretive Structural Modeling method to design the conceptual model. The result shows that as a key sub-element, Directors and Commissioners play an important role in general. In general, state-owned banks state that transparency is a key sub-element of GCG principles, while private banks declare accountability as a key sub-element. In relation to corporate governance and competitiveness, productivity and profitability can be considered key sub-elements that lead to market valuation. The implementation of good governance bank directly contributes to improving the competitiveness of the bank.

Abstract

The existing curriculum of diploma program in tours and travel  has been applied since the year of  2000 by tourism college in Indonesia. The rapid change and innovation  in  information technology  brought a lot of conveniences on tours and travel business. Those manual procedures, are no longer applicable. As such, the core competencies curriculum in this program has been continuously at no change. Moreover, the trend in tourism has been changed too. It is now the era of green tourism that also change demand and  consumption preference of tourists. On the other hand, Indonesian qualification framework is aimed to promote better quality of human resources development prior to free flow of people within the region. The main objective of this study is to analyse the curriculum compliance and to find out the solution that could be taken to meet the requirement of the fifth level in the qualification-framework. The focus group discussion is held to figureout the suitable competencies in level five and its the demand. The secondary data were collected from seven  private college out of the 26 private colleges throughout the country.  Afteward the analysis between secondary and the primary data from end-users was taken. The results showed that the compliance on regulation are in place in terms of total of credits. However the curriculum  and syllabus are not high  enough to obtain level five. It is therefore suggested that curriculum must be reviewed and adjusted to formulate the fifth level including the need to follow tourism trend of green tourism curriculum

Abstract

In today’s globalized world, information is one of the most important assets of the companies. Information has become very important both as input and output. Hence, it provides valuable input into managing IT systems and their development, enabling risk identification, planning and mitigation. By this way, companies gain competitive advantage in worldwide arena. Information security becomes very critical issue for those companies, who want to conduct e-business operations since the Internet is not a completely secure intermediate. The leakage of information during transactions causes trust issues between consumer and business. For that reason, companies have to design and handle secure transaction methods. A framework for e-business operations security is presented and compared in terms of speed and reliability. The aim of this paper is to identify e-business security management issues and provide insight for new methods to provide information security.

Abstract

The  study assesses  and  evaluates  use  of  e-resources  by  120  subjects,  namely post  graduate students, research scholars and faculty members at Faculty of Management Studies Library (FMSL), University of Delhi (DU), Delhi. Highlights problems encountered by the users and suggest remedial  measures for their improvement. Author investigate the use of e-resources through a survey based on a structured questionnaire. Various statistical methods used for data analysis. Study confirmed that all the three classes of subjects are aware with various types of e-resources, e-databases, e-books and e-journals. Suggests improvement in the access facilities, with more computer terminals, high internet speed, including Wi-Fi connectivity and subscription to more e-resources by the Delhi University Library System (DULS). Also finds out whether there is any shift in approach in using electronic resources over print, including internet, website of FMS, OPAC, etc. by the users of FMS. The paper provides some insights concerning the benefits of electronic resources over print resources, i.e., technical ability for a single copy to be made accessible by multiple users; their durability; their use in preservation; the fact they don’t go out of print; their ability to support distance learning; and their potential to provide users with access 24/7.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the affecting factors of innovative capability and firm performance in small and medium-sized firms in manufacturing industry in Turkey. The affecting factors of innovative capability are firm’s customer orientation, competitor orientation, technological orientation. In this study, a model which includes affecting factors of innovative capability and firm performance is developed. Then a questionnaire is developed and applied to managers of 162 manufacturing firms in Turkey. The model is tested by structural equation modeling (SEM) methodology, which is a statistical technique for testing and estimating causal relationships using a combination of statistical data and qualitative causal assumptions, via data provided from the survey. Then, results are discussed. Results of this study could lead to effective management of innovation for the manufacturing firms and benefits for the firms’ managers.
