Abstract

The main objective of this paper was to identify factors that influence the adoption of locationbased social networks. The research was done quantitatively and a survey was used as the data collection method. Specifically, the statistical analysis was done using simple linear regression analysis and correlation. The research found out that there were 5 factors that influence the adoption of location-based social networks, i.e.: Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Social Influence, and Facilitating Condition while Privacy Concern was only a significant factor depending on age. In addition, the strength of relationships between the variables is influenced by age and gender. It is also important to conclude that age played a significant role in determining the strength of the relationship between all of those factors while gender only played a significant role in determining the strength of social influence.

Abstract

Creating and sustaining competitive advantages is the number one priority of any organisation. Companies are trying to be competitive through continously building their innovative capability and creating innovative product and services. Literature has identified several factors affecting the innovation capability of the firms. Organisational culture is argued to be one of them and has implication for innovation capability. This study takes organisational culture and explores its effect on innovation capability. Research hypotheses are developed from the related literatures and tested through the data collected from managers of the firms in Turkey. Data was analysed via Smart PLS program. The results reveal that adhocracy culture is positively related to innovation capability. The results provide evidence regarding the implications of organisational culture as well as enabling factors behind innovativeness of the firms.

TESTING FOR THE QUARTER-OF-THE-YEAR EFFECT IN TEN ASIAN STOCK INDICES

Author

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 031- 036    Vol 06. No. 1 — 2012
Abstract

Fama’s (1970) efficient market hypothesis (EMH) states that asset returns should be unpredictable (Almonte, 2004; 2012a; 2012b).  Conversely, the existence of calendar anomalies casts doubts on Fama’s (1970) theory (Almonte, 2004; 2012a; 2012b).  The relevance of finding a pattern in stock returns can be profitable because one will have a notion as to when to time an investment (Almonte, 2004; 2012a; 2012b).
The quarter-of-the-year effect (Davidsson, 2006; Almonte, 2012a), a calendar anomaly, was tested by using returns of ten Asian stock market indices from 2001 until 2011.  The following indices were studied:  the Hang Seng Index (HSI), the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI), the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLSE), the Seoul Composite Index (KOSPI), the Nikkei Stock Average (NIKKEI), the Philippine Composite Index or Philippine Stock Index (PSEi), the Bangkok SET Index (SET), the Shanghai Composite Index (SSE), the Singapore Straits Times Index (STI), and the Taipei Weighted Price Index (TWSE).  Based on the statistical tests, the quarter-of-the-year effect was non-existent in all indices.  However, the runs test showed that the returns exhibited a pattern while tests for the month-of-the-year effect, another calendar anomaly, revealed that the particular anomaly was non-existent.  Therefore, even though the research hypothesis was not supported, one cannot state, for certain, that Fama’s (1970) efficient market hypothesis holds.

Abstract

Whistle-blowing subject which is often mentioned in the scope of “Organizational Citizenship Behavior” represents the efforts of the workers who try to expose the faults they have faced. Whistle-blowing emerges as unethical and illegal, concludes in negative effects against both organizations and workers, expresses a difficult course unless the support of the organization is provided. Existence and success of the organizations are closely related with the workers’ behaviors beyond the in-role requirements. As for the worker who starts the Whistle-blowing process, Organizational Citizenship Behavior may be a significant intervening variable. Although whistle-blowing may seem like a threat to organizations, it may have key role for the organizations that want to save themselves from unethical and illegal actions. In this context, organizations must encourage workers about whistle-blowing and must strengthen their perception of Organizational Citizenship Behavior.

Abstract
Flaring is a high-temperature oxidation process used to burn combustible components, mostly hydrocarbons, of waste gases from industrial operations. Smoking results from combustion, depending upon waste gas components and the quantity and distribution of combustion air. Waste gases containing heavy hydrocarbons such as paraffins above methane, olefins, and aromatics, cause smoke. New scientific evidence has led to recognition of the significant role of black particles (black carbon or soot) as one of the short-lived climate forcers. Measures focused on black carbon and methane are expected to achieve a significant short-term reduction in global warming. ………………………………………

Abstract
This research is to measure electricity consumption for home electronic appliances using a cloud based application without modifying the default electricity meter from Indonesian National Energy Company. Different kinds of approaches like interviews, literature research and experiments were conducted to develop the prototype of the system. Arduino Board and Current Transformator were the hardware used to capture the currents transmitted from the electronic appliances. The application to store and interpret the data was built using PHP in the cloud platform. In the testing stage, the electronic appliances` energies were successfully captured and reported in the form of charts and graphs to the users. This application is hoped to give a smarter way for the users to decide how to control their energy consumption at home.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN ICT INTEGRATION FRAMEWORK AND IMPLEMENTATION MODEL BASED ON THE DELPHI APPROACH

Author

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 100- 110   Vol 06. No. 1 — 2012
Abstract

This paper presents a framework for ICT integration based on the Delphi approach. The goal is to construct an assessment and a monitoring framework that can be used by schools in the process of ICT integration. We asked 26 experts from the academe, industry, and government to anonymously participate in a “Delphi Conference” or real-time web-based Delphi with two aims: 1) determine the relative importance of the five (5) main indicators as established by UNESCO 2003 (Delphi I), 2) to determine the scale of importance of each sub-indicators along the stages of ICT integration (Delphi II). Delphi I consisted of three (3) rounds while Delphi II had two (2) rounds. Average Measure Intra-class Correlation Coefficients (ICC) was computed for each round (ICCs) using the two-way random ANOVA model and with absolute agreement as individual rater variability type. A consensus emerged at Round 2 of Delphi I with ICC=0.7 and at Round 2 of Delphi II with ICC=0.8. Using the results, the framework was constructed and as an implementation model, it pilot tested in one division participated by a total of twelve (12) schools covering both elementary and high school levels and public and private schools. Each school was ranked according to its ICT integration score and patterns were analyzed. The highest-ranking school scored 46.99%. The division scored only 32.75% of the ideal. Concrete development pathway for the top school was crafted. It is recommended that a national survey be conducted using the framework.
