Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find a mechanism to ultimately enhance team and individual performance in team-based projects. While increasing numbers of research and practice upon teams and their development have studied the role of shared mental models in understanding team performance in the social-psychology literature, its utility through which team performance can be assessed in the management literature received mixed results. This study focused on understanding the dynamic relationship between shared mental models and performance over time. Specifically, this study investigated how the changes in Team and Task Shared Mental Models (Team-SMM and Task-SMM) affect team and individual performance of engineering students. The pairwise ratings and Likert-scale questionnaires were used to measure the Team-SMM and Task-SMM. Results indicated that Team-SMM and Task-SMM had their unique influences on team and individual performance, and their relationships varied depending on the task and team demands at the specific time period of the team project. Implications for managing team and individual performances are discussed.

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 015 – 023   Vol 08. No. 1 — 2012
Abstract

The purpose of this research is to design  production control management system based on information technology for handling demand abnormalities.  This system is early warning system that can provide signal when abnormality happened. The system consists four sub-systems i.e. prediction, analysis, solutions and management expert. Moreover it will be network integrated, hence, it can be operated online. We used survey, observation and mathematics analysis as the methodology research. Results showed that the implementation of the system could predict the abnormality of production quantity requirement from customer by six months in advance and able to recommend the countermeasures of each the abnormalities in production process. Furthermore, the implementaion showed the increasing of four  key performance index i.e quality (reduction in product defect by 10.22%),  cost (reduction in cost spoilage due to product defect by 20.44%), delivery (better in on-time delivery by 95.1%) and productivity (improvement in kousu 4 mansec and reduction in operator’s overtime by 28.1%).

Abstract

Every small business entrepreneur (SBE) desires to promote his/her products, services, endorse this company worldwide. With this, having own website can be seen all over the world is the best appropriate tool to endorse one’s business. However, for a single SBE to have their own astonishing website, one must have money to pay an efficient website developer for the creation and maintenance of a website. Another option is that the SBE himself must know how to do codes and creative enough to have his own website. With this problem, the proponents aimed to develop a website creator which will automatically generate websites based on the requirements of the user. No need to have lots of money, to be excellent in HTML codes and to be creative for the system will do it for you.

Abstract

International Safety Management (ISM) Code was developed since July 1, 1998 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as a reaction of the increase in the number of accidents and the demands on shipping and insurance industries are the subject of international attention. The purpose of this code is to provide international standards for the management and safe operation of ships and pollution prevention. Indonesia which is the largest archipelago country in the world, becoming an international shipping densest traffic flow is traversed by ships from various countries. In the analysis of National Transportation Safety Committee expressed safety recommendations to be implemented by manajamen/operators in the summary results of the investigation of maritime transport accidents in 2007 is to conduct a comprehensive implementation of the ISM code and consequently to prevent the loading process that does not fit with the company’s commitment regarding the safety of the vessel and also improve understanding and implementation of the ISM Code for the crew. To find out the attitude of the crew in carrying out the rules of the ISM Code used the approach of The Theory of Planned Behavior. Study has found that the basic variables of the Theory of Planned Behavior significantly influence to intention in ISM Code compliance. In the other hand, the crew trust will affect to the attitudes toward behavior and perceieved behavioral control before they determine the behavioral intentions.

Abstract

There are several approaches for valuing the real estate property. Numerous models of asset’s value enhancement have been developed by academicians to answer the dynamic changes in real estate industry.  Some of the changes may restrict the real estate development from progressing or vice versa.  Without challenging the existing models of real estate valuation offered in the academic literatures, authors in contrast support the notions that those changes can be turned into superior opportunities from the perspective of postmodern marketing.  Based on empirical experiences dealing with States Owned Assets property, the authors deem Expense Leveraged Value Indexes (ELVI) of real estate valuation is the most appropriate to use because  the enhancement of both the values of tangible and intangible capabilities of a property is built within the model.  The intangibility part of ELVI is integrated marketing communication in which this paper will offer the marketing model of a brand community formation to be considered.  The model of ELVI will be discussed in the first part of paper followed by the discussion of empirical constraints in States Owned Assets management.  The second part of the paper offers a hypothetical solution to reverse decaying assets in States Owned Assets using the adaptation of producer-customer based relation in the postmodern marketing derived from the service dominant logic theory and customer center theory.

REVISITING LOAN GRANT AND DEFAULT CHARACTERISTICS AND WOMEN IN MICROFINANCE

Author

Source International Journal of Information Technology and Business Management  pp 046 – 054  Vol 08. No. 1 — 2012
Abstract

Loan grant and default  characteristics in microfinance speak tremendously of women and its participation. Although the availability and adequacy of  income and the presence of the guarantor play an important role in loan grant and default characteristics, the significant role of women in the process  can not be discounted. The paper intends to understand,  relate and connect loan and default characteristics and women involvement  in microfinance. The review further highlights the positive and innovative contribution of women in the development and financial sustainability of micro finance institutions as well as women empowerment. Microfinance has both the capacity to empower and may disempower women as well. The truth remains that nurturing empowerment among women can’t be completely   developed by microfinance alone but instead through a  series of intervention available to women. The fact remains to be  true in relation  to  other invention for  poverty alleviation and gender bias reduction. The value however is identifying  and replicating best practices and minimizing practices that depletes opportunities for enhancing women empowerment in microfinance.

Abstract

Purpose – This paper contribute to the development of political parties’ Internet uses by proposing complex decision process model to evaluate communicative and persuasive potential offered by Internet.
Design/methodology/approach – The study evaluates the Turkish political parties’ websites and proposes an effective model by using a multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) method. This paper introduces a model, based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which determines the global priority weights for party functions and has examined the critical factors that affect the appropriateness of website use and design based on multiple criteria.
Findings – On the basis of the proposed hierarchical model, the findings suggest that functionality and visibility appeared to be the main goal of the Turkish political party’ website………………………………………………………………………….

Abstract

Research collaboration connects distributed knowledge and competencies into new ideas and research institutes and has been the subject of many research projects. We argue that academic libraries, including libraries of universities and research institutes, hold a wealth of information regarding patrons’ research interests hidden in their data bases. Mining these databases can provide better understanding of researchers’ needs and interests. This paper has two main contributions. Firstly, it proposes a new methodology based on data mining techniques in library information systems to uncover patrons’ research interests in order to facilitate research collaboration including interdisciplinary research. The proposed methodology, studies data mining techniques in a library information system as a case study and makes advantage of clustering algorithms to cluster researchers based on their library usage which is interpreted as their research interests. The second contribution of this paper is that, it presented a knowledge map as a visual representation of usage trends of an academic library to portray virtual interest groups based on item use information. The result of this study can support managers and decision makers for strategic decision making regarding future research directions and collaborations. The outcome of the case study confirms our hypotheses by revealing clusters of library users with similar research interests validated by their academic backgrounds.
